Myoelectric Prosthetics

Myoelectric systems eliminate body powered cables, letting the amputee move the arm and hand slowly or quickly in any position. This provides a more natural response with less effort than the traditional Mechanical systems. Myoelectric systems increase mobility and allow any patient to achieve maximum function, including transhumeral, forequarter amputees and shoulder disarticulation.

Combined with high performance hand control, the wearer is provided superior cosmetic appearance. Smooth exterior hand covers provide a natural look. For rugged tasks, the hand can be changed to another work hand or electronic terminal device. The Myolab II was specifically designed for use by Certified Prosthetists in fitting and troubleshooting myoelectric prostheses such as the Utah Arm. Before fitting, the Myolab II can be used to locate intact muscle activity.

When used with the Utah Arm, troubleshooting is made easier because EMG signals can be monitored while the prosthesis is operating. Because the preamp signals can be monitored from inside the socket, the Myolab II is perfect for establishing the gain adjustments of the Utah Arm and for use as a training aid for patients. Small enough to slip into a lab coat pocket, you can carry the Myolab II anywhere.

For Biofeedback Training

The Myolab’s dual meters and audio signals let clients see and hear their muscles as they work. The use of preamp signals is perfect as a diagnostic aid and for muscle strengthening or relaxation training. It is also an invaluable coordination tool to train clients to work specific muscles alternately or together. The electrodes give an immediate reading after being placed on the skin, no gels are necessary.
